Pichai was born in Tamil Nadu, the southernmost tip of the Indian peninsula.Born in Chennai, India, Pichai earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) in Metallurgical Engineering.
He holds an M.S. from Stanford University in Material Sciences and Engineering and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania,where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar.
He did his schooling from Chennai at VanaVani.
Pichai worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company
He moved to the U.S. in 1993 to continue his studies, acquiring a master's. from Stanford and an MBA from Wharton School of Business.
He joined Google in 2004, right around the time the company launched Gmail.
After cutting his teeth on the Google Toolbar, he was a driving force behind the Chrome browser and Google Apps.
In 2013 was put in charge of Android, which Pichai is now working to expand into a full-blown mobile carrier.
The success of these products under his leadership would be enough to elevate any manager to the highest echelons.
