At Madurai, the body was received by Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah.

The mortal remains of Kalam were brought to Mandapam from Madurai in a helicopter after being flown there from Delhi in a special Indian Air Force aircraft.

The Central Government has declared national mourning for seven days.

The large number of people lined up on both sides of the road to have a final glimpse of their beloved APJ.


Dr Kalam played a pivotal role in the Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998.

In 09.60 AM, Kalam's body reaches mosque for prayers.

Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm in view of the funeral of former president APJ Abdul Kalam.

In 11.43 AM, Tri-services personnel ceremoiously remove the national flag from the body of the former President.

Tamil Nadu government has allotted land for a memorial for Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
